Western Balkans
EU relations with the Western Balkans partners.
Partners in the Western Balkans region
The Western Balkans region comprises six partners: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
The EU is committed to the EU membership perspective of the Western Balkans partners. Several of them are on the path to becoming EU member states through the enlargement process.
* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244/1999 and the ICJ opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
Support to the region
The EU is the closest partner as well as the main investor, trading partner and donor in the Western Balkans region.
It also provides strong political, technical and financial support to the partners to help them bring forward necessary reforms and progress on their European path.
Summits between the EU and the Western Balkans partners are held regularly.
